Wow, Indonesia's Most Expensive Logistics Costs in Asia
KolomFakta. The logistical cost of Surabaya-Papua reaches Rp 20 million. This figure makes logistics costs in Indonesia the most expensive in Asia.
Indef economist Bhima Yudisthira said that currently the average logistics costs in Indonesia are still 24% of gross domestic product (GDP). This figure is higher than ideally at Rp. 15% per GDP.
"When viewed, the average logistics costs in Indonesia are 24% of GDP nationally. In fact, the ideal in Indonesia should be 15% of GDP to be more competitive," he told detikFinance, Tuesday
Furthermore, he explained the figure of 24% of GDP was the highest in Asia. Therefore infrastructure improvements are needed to reduce costs.
Bhima said, a step that the government can take by improving infrastructure until the policy is to speed up the loading and unloading time at the port.
"The problem in Indonesia is that this number is the highest in Asia. Therefore, efforts to improve infrastructure and various kinds can reduce logistics costs to 15%," he said.
Meanwhile, the logistics costs from Surabaya-Papua are considered too expensive when compared to the cost of getting to Japan, which is only Rp. 4 million. Because, in terms of distance Papua is closer than Japan.
"For the Papua case, it is expensive because the logic is more expensive than Japan. Moreover, the actual distance is closer to Papua," he closed.
